As one of the original rental Communities,
Indian Wells is the most centrally located of
all the estates
in Kissimmee - with Magic Kingdom, Epcot and SeaWorldŽ less than 10 minutes away. You will also find US192
(the main road through Kissimmee), packed with restaurants and bars just ˝
mile away, a Wal-Mart, Lake Buena Vista shopping outlets and local shops & bars within walking distance (on the edge
of Indian Wells). The ever popular International Drive is further north - just past the Orange County Conference
Centre.

The
excellent
surrounding road network ensures 'back-door' routes are available
to beat the tourist traffic and as with previous guest comments, we are certain there is no better location.
Nevertheless, even with its central position
and close proximity to the attractions, shops and restaurants, Indian Wells still retains the
peacefulness of a quiet residential neighbourhood.

So why not take a walk around the lake and get to meet the locals - the 'Indian Wells' ducks.
Throw some bread and make friends for life!

Taxis or a Rental Car? |
|
Indian Wells is unique in
its location and as such, we can say from previous
guests that it is possible to have a great vacation
without the need for a rental car. For
virtually all other villa communities, a rental car
would be essential.
That said, a rental car is always recommended merely because of the
distance between everything. The vast open
spaces mean that the attractions and shops can be
over 10 miles apart and with the exception of the
International Drive area, there are very few public transport trams.
Although taxis are available
(and relatively inexpensive - around $5 for the
first mile and $3 per additional mile), the costs
could mount up.
Should you decide not to rent a car, check out the taxi
and bus prices from Orlando international airport, using 'Lake Buena Vista' as the area. Alternatively, try the
Mears
taxi cab fare estimator for an idea of what the taxi costs are likely to be.
If you are arriving into Orlando
International airport, you may find the short
infomercial from Mears taxis useful as it shows
not only where to collect your luggage, but where to
find a taxi cab! |

How does Indian Wells Compare? |
|
|
|
Many renters to the Kissimmee area will almost certainly be located around US27
(highway to the east and south-east of Walt Disney World
Resort) or towards Poinciana. Shops and
restaurants can be very limited, a car is essential and many of the estates
do not have community facilities. Unless you are
eating in or staying around the villa, driving is a must
to get anywhere and can be as much as 40 minutes to
some of the attractions and around 30 miles for the Florida Mall!
If you have made the daily drive from
the 'wilderness' resorts, you will know just how much of
your vacation can be taken up in your car and with the
current gas/petrol prices you will certainly notice how
much it costs.
The interactive Google Map below shows
Indian Wells, with theme parks, attractions, shops, restaurants, airports and convention centres.
Also, unlike many
communities, with Indian Wells there is no need to zoom out to make everything and distances appear a lot closer than they
actually are!

What
is the best route from Orlando International airport? |
|
|
|
If you are flying into Orlando International Airport,
unless you are very familiar with the local roads, we would always
advise taking the most straightforward route - the Florida Greeneway (SR417). This is a new toll road and avoids the
very busy Interstate 4. It joins the north-east of Orlando (SR528 Beachline
Expressway) to the south-west of Kissimmee, passing just to
the east of Walt Disney World Resort.
|
|
|
-
When exiting the airport, follow the signs for the 'South Exit' or Kissimmee SR417. Stay on this road for 4 miles
until you approach traffic lights and the junction of SR417 toll road. Turn
right - heading towards Kissimmee and Walt Disney World Resort. Once
on the SR417, you will travel approximately 12 miles on the
dual-carriageway, passing by two toll booths - both with a charge of $1
per car.
-
After passing through the second toll booth, exit the SR417 at
junction 6 - signed for International Drive and Walt Disney World Resort. (This is SR536
'World Center Drive', which leads straight into Walt Disney World Resort -
towards Downtown Disney and EPCOT centre.)
-
At the next main junction alongside Lake Buena Vista
suites hotel, turn left towards Kissimmee - this is SR535. At the
next main junction (Polynesian Isles Boulevard), turn right between the
two service stations (just before WalMart). You are now in Indian
Wells.
